Beach Day Lou Grant Parent Child
Workshop (LGPCW)
Friday Morning, 5/30/03
Beach Day is scheduled for the end of the school year, I suspect because the probability of warmer weather is higher. Carpinteria however, is known for it's June Gloom days of marine low clouds and fog. We had sunny weather and temps near 80 in the middle of the week, but by Friday the June gloom had returned. It was chilly in the morning, but the clouds thinned by midday and the kids were running around enough that they didn't seem to mind the cool air.
Sam, Pam, and Tom opted to transport via the Carpinteria Seaside Shuttle. It runs every half hour and the end of the line was right at the Beach Party. I like the Shuttle because there is less cleanup, and the kids seem to enjoy it.
The day started a bit slow at 9 am but by Circle Time there was a larger than average turnout. Kids played in the surf, build a sand fort, examined the kelp and assorted beach stuff, climbed on the rocks, played ball, mad sand angels, played on the lifeguard tower, and tried various sunbathing positions. The regular work crew provide snacks and coffee for the adults.
Tom & Pam dropped Sam off and took the 9:30 Shuttle back home. Tom returned on bike for retrieval a bit before Circle Time. Gabby and Sam rode the Shuttle back to El Carro Park. Carlos the driver was the only one on the bus with the kids. Tom followed on his bike and stayed in visual contact with the kids to make sure they were minding Carlos. Danny also followed in his vehicle. The Shuttle is pretty slow, so Tom had to wait some for it to keep up.
Sam had his bike at the bus stop and rode it home. Gabby lives about 100 yards from the bus stop, but Danny picked her up to change for dance class.
Fun Day at the beach. :) Tom
