LGPCW Camp Out
Saturday & Sunday, 5/17&18/03

The annual camp out for the Lou Grant Parent Child Workshop (LGPCW) is held at Skofield Park.  We had reserved the whole campground, but only used the lower half.  Tents were pitched on two of the greens.  Due to the rowdy late night noise the year before, alcohol was prohibited, and that seemed to take care of the problem.  It was pretty settled down by 9:30 pm, and still by 11.  The temperature was just right. Hot in the afternoon for water activities, and the mid 50s before dawn.  Clear sunny skies.

Sam & Tom arrived a bit after noon.  Pam stayed home with Tess, just 2 weeks old.  We set up the tent, and changed into swim gear.  Somewhere in there Sam tried the clothing optional thing.  He needed a bit of persuasion to convince him that putting his swim trunks back on was a good idea.

Sam shucked some corn before trying the slip and slide, a large sheet of plastic stretched across the down hill lawn with sprinklers spraying the surface.  Tom jumped in to convince Sam that it wasn't too cold, and cranked up the action with doubles and triples.  The speed was somewhat proportional to weight, so the heavy triples would barrel off the end of the plastic onto the grass or into the mud.

A change of clothing after the slip & slide, and off to the craft table to fabricate drum sticks for the evening.  That was followed by some rock climbing that wandered down to the creek.  William (one of Sam's classmates) led the troops down the creek boulders.  Sam tried to stay dry for the first 10 minutes, but finally opted for short cuts.  They had the swimming pool going when we got back.  Another cleanup and change of clothes.  Jan broke out the bubbles.

Dinner was deluxe with all you could eat for everyone, followed by dessert and smores.  The drum circle got going about sunset.  Mostly for the adults.  Initially all the kids were present, but they filtered away for wild play with flashlights and glow sticks.

Sam ran out of gas shortly after the drumming, and crashed into a deep sleep.  Jan was leading a sing along with guitars so Tom sat up after Sam was down.  Tom took a walk in the dark and retired about 11:30.

It was light at 5:30 with a building racket from the assorted wildlife.  People noises started about 6.  Breakfast lingered for awhile, and most started to pack up.

Fun trip, look forward to going back next year.  We'll probably need a bigger tent for all 4 of us.
